The Institute of Sociology  paper proposals for presentation at the International Workshop “Demographic Change, Migration and Sustainable Development”, scheduled to take place on 19 October 2018 at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), 1 Lieu Giai, Hanoi.




The current process of demographic transition in Vietnam is posing both opportunities and challenges for achieving sustainable development goals, such as the diversity of demographic transition stages across the country, the demographic dividend, high sex ratio at birth, increasing population ageing and rapid migration, human resource development.


This one-day international workshop is aimed to provide a forum for scholars and policy makers to examine international experiences and lessons learned on post-demographic transition, to guide research and collaborations regarding population policies to overcome challenges while take advantages of demographic opportunities. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:


     - Trends and differentials in demographic changes;

     - Demographic dividend and labor force situation;

     - Education and sustainable human resource development;

     - Determinants and consequences of low fertility;

     - Health, diseases and mortality;

     - High sex ratio at birth;

     - Population ageing and social security;

     - Migration in the context of urbanization and post-demographic transition;




Each submission includes an abstract (300 to 500 words), followed by a full paper (4000 to 6000 words) and a slideshow presentation (maximum 30 slides in PowerPoint) of original and unpublished scientific research. All of them should be written in English with regular academic format and be sent to the bellow email address or via website of the workshop.


The authors/co-authors making the submission must provide the full names, affiliations, and email addresses. After a review process, corresponding authors of selected abstracts will be notified to submit their full papers. Each full paper must be from 9 to 15 pages (from 4000 to 6000 words) including tables, figures, references and appendix, edited in Microsoft Word.




     - Submission of draft paper with abstract: 17 September 2018

     - Notification of acceptance: 21 September 2018

     - Registration: 25 September 2018

     - Submission of full paper: 9 October, 2018

     - Submission of slideshow presentation: 15 October, 2018

     - Workshop: 19 October, 2018

Workshop presenters should make registration via email by 25 September 2018. Other participants are invited to register by 12 October 2018.

Registration fees:  Not required


Due to the limited resources, the workshop is unable to cover travel and accommodation costs. Foreign participants who need a visa are advised to start the application process no later than 30 days prior to their travel date. An invitation letter to support visa application or travel authorization will be provided upon request.


A buffet lunch, refreshment and coffee breaks will be served at the workshop venue on Friday, 19 October 2018.
